I was doing my physics homework and I brought nuclear science into the equation. Does anyone know a line between fission and fusion, or are they essentially the same, because they look like very similar processes.

Fission is the splitting of a large atom into two or more smaller ones.

Fusion is the fusing of two or more lighter atoms into a larger one.

Fusion = things are FUSED, they come together.

Fission = things are SPLIT into parts.

They are the opposite process! Fusion is when two nuclei interact and combine into one bigger nucleus, and fission is when one nucleus splits into two smaller nuclei. Both processes can also throw out other small particles or groups of particles.
