Why were countries unwilling to accept the United States as trustee for the world?

  A) The United States was regarded as feeble and hypocritical after the attacks of September 11.
  B) No country would set the precedent of supporting unilateral action by one country.
  C) The community was discontented with what it perceived as the high-handedness of the United States as its single leading citizen.
  D) The international community preferred to set the example of consensus, which helped create the mass murder of September 11 in the first place.
  E) The fear of retaliatory action on the part of France, much like the appeasement prior to World War II
