Glycogenesis is the process of glycogen synthesis, in which glucose molecules are added to chains of glycogen for storage. This process is activated during rest periods following the Cori cycle, in the liver, and also activated by insulin in response to high glucose levels, for example after a carbohydrate-containing meal.

Thanks Sener.

Although i found a different answer  Confounded Face

Could you or someone confirm which one is correct?

Glycogenesis process - glucose is phosphorylated in glucose 6 phosphate by hexokinase, it is then converted into glucose 1 phosphate then uridine diphosphate glucose and finally into glycogen.

Glycogenolysis process - glucose is split off glycogen vis phosphorylation, glucose 1 phosphate is formed, glucose 1 phosphate is converted into glucose 6 phosphate then into glucose

Sounds correct.

  • Glycogenesis is the formation of glycogen (GENESIS=beginning)
  • Glycogenolysis is the breakdown of glycogen to glucose (LYSIS=splitting).

Yep I agree too, they both seem correct.
Keep in mind that gluconeogenesis is the reverse of glycolysis with the same enzymes except at like 3 steps or something. There are a few steps that have different enzymes simply because they may not be found in the cytosol.
I posted some charts that summarize both reactions, with their enzymes and structures, and compare and contrast the 2 pathways..

Hope this helps Slight Smile
