3. Movement of stapes at the oval window establishing pressure waves in perilymph of scala vestibule

4. The pressure wave distorts the basilar membrane on the way to the round window of the scala timpani

5. Vibration of the basilar membrane causes vibration of hair cells across the tectorial membrane.

6. Information about the region and intensity of stimulation is relayed to the CNS over the cochlear ranch of cranial nerve VIII
