Rationale: PTT measures the activity of thromboplastin, which is dependent on intrinsic factors. In hemophilia, the intrinsic clotting factor VIII (antihemophilic factor) is deficient, resulting in a prolonged PTT. Shortened prothrombin time (PT), prolonged prothrombin time (PT), and shortened partial thromboplastin time (PTT) are incorrect. The PT may not necessarily be af-fected in this disorder.
