1)Predict whether each of the following processes increases or decreases entropy, explain your reasoning.
a) burning a log in a fireplace

b)condensation of vapor on a cold surface (I said increase, but not sure how to explain)

2)Using Lechateliers Principle, predict the effects, if any, of the following changes on the equillibrium of the system described below:
C(s)+2H2(g) <> CH4(G) + 18kcal

a) C is added  (Will it shift to the right and increase the product side)
b)H2 is added
c) CH4 is removed
d)Temp is increased (I said that it dreases the products and increases the reactants?)
e)a catalyst is added- ( ( I said it has no effect on equillibrium)

Entropy is a decrease in order, and is, thus, and increase in disorder.

Burning a log would increase disorder because of the fire, so this increases entropy. Condensation is when a gas goes to a liquid. Gas molecules move quicker that those in liquids, so a gas going to a liquid would decrease disorder, so this decreases entropy.
