Orthodontics truly began developing in the 18th and 19th centuries. In 1728, French dentist Pierre Fauchard, who is often credited with inventing modern orthodontics, published a book entitled "The Surgeon Dentist" on methods of straightening teeth.

In 1928, Walter Diemer was working as an accountant for the Fleer Chewing Gum Company in Philadelphia; what he wound up doing in his spare time was playing around with new gum recipes.
Description
This gum became highly successful and was eventually named by the president of Fleer as double bubble because of its stretchy texture. The original bubble gum was pink in color because that was the only dye that Diemer had on hand at the time and it was his favorite color.
