The Sourness Receptor

Description
Responses were recorded from nerves that serve the gustatory receptors of the tongues of normal mice and mice with a knockout (KO) of the PKD2L1 transient receptor potential ion channel. Only sensitivity to sour-tasting substances is affected by the mutation. (Adapted from Huang, A. L., Chen, X., Hoon, M.A., Chandrashekar, J., Guo, W., Tränker, D., Ryba, N. J. P., and Zuker, C. S. Nature, 2006, 442, 934–938.)
