You are in biology class and it is close to noon.  Your friend beside you told you that they did not have breakfast and was feeling tired.  You tried to explain how that was not a good idea because your friend’s blood glucose levels would be low at noon. You proceed to explain to your friend what happens internally when blood sugar drops.  Write down what you would say and be specific in terms of feedback, using the hormones that regulate blood sugar levels. During starvation, glucagon is released from the pancreas. The hormone travels to the liver, signalling it to breakdown the glycogen stores in the liver. Glycogen is a polysaccaride, and it consists of many glucose monosaccharides linked together. This will temporarily restore blood sugar levels, but if it's depleted, your body begins to breakdown triglycerides stored in fat cells.
