The product of four different positive integers is 360. What is the maximum possible sum of these four integers.

A: 68  |   B: 66  |  C: 52   |  D: 39  |  E: 24

And could you please tell me why and try to explain why, instead of just giving me the answer.

a*b*c*d=360

Now, we want the largest possible single factor to start, so:

360*1*1*1 {fail}
180*1*1*2{fail}
120*3*1*1 {fail}
90*1*2*2 {fail}
72*5*1*1 {fail}

So the first 5 fail because they all imply two of the numbers are the same {which we've established is incorrect}.

So let us take a=60, which means b=1, c=2, d=3, leaving:

60+1+2+3=66
