Hi there,

Cycloalkenes have the general formula CnH2(n-m). The letter m represents the number of double bonds.

For example, if we have:

Cyclopropene (C3H4) -- 3 carbons, 1 double bond

Hydrogen Molar Mass to Total Molar Mass

4.04 / 40.06 = 0.10 or 10% 👈

Cyclobutene (C4H6) -- 4 carbons, 1 double bond

6.06 / 54.09 = 0.11 or 11%

Cyclopentene (C5H8) -- 5 carbons, 1 double bond

8.08 / 68.12 = 0.12 or 12%

As you see, the % continues to grow, the one we choose is the first one.
