Speed is goven to us as m/s. How fast are you going if you are travelling at 70 mph? (1 mile = 1.609 km)

70mi | 1.609 km | 10^3 m | 1 hr  |  1 min
------    --------------   ---------    -------   -------
 hr     |       1 mi   |   1 km  60 min|  60 sec

= (70 x 1.609 x 10^3) / 3600

= 112.63 x 10^3/ 3600

= .031286 x 10^3 m/s

= 31.286 m/s

Is this right? And because the question only had one significant figure, should my answer be 1 SF as well?

= 3 x 10^1 m/s

I appreciate the input. I already have the answer, I'm just looking for how many significant figures to use.

Oh, in that case it's correct.
