Within a host cell that is infected with virus, the viral proteins are digested and conjugated with MHC Class I
molecules to be expressed on the surface of the host cell. CD8+T cytotoxic cells have receptors for the MHC Class I
molecule. CD8+T cytotoxic cells that also have the T cell antigen receptor for the viral antigen presented will bind
to both viral and MHC antigens and be stimulated to destroy the host cell.
