Benzyl alcohol, although a primary alcohol, reacts very rapidly in the presence of HCl forming benzyl chloride. Why is this?

 a. The phenyl ring increases the acidity of the -OH group.
  b. The phenyl ring stabilizes the carbonium ion.
  c. The phenyl ring increases the basicity of the -OH group.
  d. The phenyl ring increases the rate of dissociation of HCl.
