Selective pressure is any phenomena which alters the behavior and fitness of living organisms within a given environment. It is the driving force of evolution and natural selection, and it can be divided into two types of pressure: biotic or abiotic.

Selecting pressure causes the selection, selection agent is what does the selecting.

E.g. Tall plants vs short plants

Tall plant phenotype is favourable over short plant phenotype due to taller plants being able to photosynthesise more effectively.

Selecting agent: Light intensity

Selecting pressure: To harvest more energy from it. The pressure isn't the result, it's the thing that's "pressuring" selection to occur.
