In part, the answer to this question relates to restaurant size. For example, in a small property the restaurant manager may be the new employee's supervisor and orientation responsibilities will be undertaken by the manager. In contrast, in a larger property an immediate supervisor who is not the restaurant manager will likely assume more orientation duties. However, it is important for the restaurant manager to genuinely welcome the new staff member and volunteer assistance as it is considered necessary to do so. The restaurant manager should make on-going efforts to visit with the new employee during the first weeks on the job as he/she transitions to a more experienced employee. As well, the manager should maintain an on-going professional relationship with new employees and all staff members.
