Ans: Excision repair in E. coli is done by the uvr system. A combination of the proteins UvrA and UvrB recognizes DNA damage, upon which UvrA dissociates and UvrC attaches. UvrBC has endonuclease activity to remove a portion of the damaged strand. UvrD is a helicase that unwinds the DNA to allow the excised strand to be removed.
