Answer to #2

Even though the model is an abstract representation that allows us to visualize what we can't observe directly, it provides us with considerable information. For instance, we see that working memory is smaller than either sensory memory or long-term memory, which is intended to remind us that its capacity is smaller than the other two stores. Also, we see fewer arrows to the right of attention than to its left. This tells us that we don't attend to all the stimuli we encounter; attention is a screen and helps us understand why we don't notice many of the stimuli we encounter until someone or something reminds us of them.

Answer to #3

The components in the model of human memory include: 1) memory storessensory memory, working memory, and long-term memory. These are repositories that hold information as we organize it in an attempt to make sense of it and store it for further use; 2) cognitive processesattention, perception, rehearsal, encoding and retrieval. These processes move information from one memory store to another; and 3) metacognitionthe cognitive mechanism we have for monitoring and regulating both the storage of information and how the information is moved from one store to another.
