Organizational Development (OD) deals with people change and the process of increasing organizational effectiveness by changing certain characteristics of organization members, attitudes, and leadership skills. The organizational development process can be used when human resources are shown to be the main cause of organizational ineffectiveness.
One traditionally used OD technique for changing people in organizations is the Managerial Grid. The Grid describes various management styles, and the grid is based on the premise that management styles can be described by means of two primary attitudes of the manager: concern for people and concern for production. Through training on the grid, managers are able to learn which style to use with which specific job situation they are involved with at the time. Emphasis throughout the use of OD involves the use of developing teamwork within the organization.
Though there are many who dispute the use of OD and the managerial grid, companies have seen productivity and profit increases from the OD process.
