Suggested Responses: Students should discuss at least two major changes in infant care over recent decades. In the middle of the 20th century, bottle-feeding was more popular than breastfeeding, and many parents believed that responding too quickly to a child's cry would spoil the child. Students should cite a study describing the benefits of breastfeeding (e.g. Martin-Bautista et al., 2010; Thomson, Bilson, & Dykes, 2011; Pan American Health Organization, 2002) to refute the first claim and Bell and Ainsworth (1972) or a similar study to refute the second.
