Initially the juvenile court provided no due process protections for juveniles. Why?

▸ The Bill of Rights specifically excludes juveniles from due process protections.

▸ Court proceedings were not adversarial.

▸ Due process protections were given to the juvenile's parents.

▸ Juveniles could not be punished.
