Because the cells and basic physiological processes of humans are incompatible with those of most animal and plant pathogens, humans are resistant to infection by these pathogens. In many cases, humans lack the chemical receptors that are required by the pathogens to enter their host. In other cases, the temperature and pH of the human body is not compatible with the conditions the pathogen needs to survive.
