Histones interact with DNA in order to:?
1. counteract the positively charged phosphates in the DNA backbone and allow it to coil more tightly.
2. protect bacterial chromosomes from chemical mutagens.
3. regulate expression of the DNA by making it either accessible or compacted.
4. manage supercoiling by breaking and rejoining DNA molecules.
5.coat the DNA to protect it from nucleases in the cell.

You see 1 would be correct but phosphate is negatively charged - not positively charged.
