I don't understand why sucrose moves AGAINST its concentration gradient from the SOURCE into the PHLOEM.

Sucrose is a very valuable substance.  In order to get as much as possible into the phloem, it is actively transported.  If diffusion were the only way to move sucrose, only half the sucrose produced would get into the phloem before reaching equilibrium.
