M Theory is, and I'm just assuming here, Music Theory.

String theory is a developing branch of theoretical physics that combines quantum mechanics and general relativity into a quantum theory of gravity. The strings of string theory are one-dimensional oscillating lines, but they are no longer considered fundamental to the theory, which can be formulated in terms of points or surfaces too.

Dude, string theory is still a hypothesis and no, it's not proven yet.
Means either it can be true or it may be just a philosophy.

In 'String Theory' essentially when you take a pair of scissors and cut a piece of string the theory states that you will have two resultant pieces of string each of half the original length.
It has so far been disproven in one experiment at M.I.T by 'The Great Suprendo' who managed to make two resultant pieces of string each the same size as the original.  .....I know. Beats the hell outta me.
