Hey!
Some tubing have a 0.22u filter, some a 1.2u filter still others have a 15u filter. What is the difference between these and what type of drugs are given with these tubing?

1] Size of filter membranes  vary from 5 to 0.22 u
a] filters 1 to 5 U u or better remove most particulates, but not most bacteria and fungi from IV solution
b] filters 0.45 remove  fungi and most bacteria from solution
c] filters 0.22 u or smaller remove all fungi and bacteria but also slow rate of infusion
2] one of main criteria for choosing filter size is that it is not too fine
a] filters that are too fine will clog
b] examples: blood transfusion, lipids
