How does facilitated diffusion differ from passive diffusion?

facilitated uses carrier proteins that snag a molecule and release it inside the cell. It's still passive because it the molecule is moving down its concentration gradient anyway.  Passive diffusion is when a molecule passes through the membrane by itself.

Note: Neither of these require the use of ATP so there classified as passive transport.

passive diffusion is wen substances move past the membrane without any use if cell energy.
facilitated diffusion are hundreds of protein channels have been found that allow particular substances to cross different membranes. Fast and specifif. Does not require energy
