This is kind of hard to explain, but I know if there was a insertion, the pre-mRNA would be longer. But if it was in an intron and therefore got spliced out, would the mRNA be normal? Or still messed up as well?

Please help!

You got that right.  as long the mutation doesn't produce any cryptic splice sites, any insertion would not cause a shift in the reading frame.  The sequence is not going to be in the mature mRNA at all, it will be spliced out.
