A certain pharmaceutical company produces a medication that contains 40.0 mg of magnesium hydroxide, Mg(OH)2 per ml. This is the only constituent of the preparation with acid-base properties.

So that you can work out the concentration of the magnesium hydroxide, the concentration of hydroxide ions, and hence the pH; knowing that nothing else (in the preparation) with affect the pH value.

Remember that the idea of the preparation is to eat/drink it so that you get an acid-base reaction once it meets the stomach acid.

I imagine this is a formulation for an antacid. Magnesium hydroxide could be the only active ingredient in the medication.
