brown mouse + heterozygous black mouse have four offspring. what are the chances all offspring will be brown?

Assuming that the allele for brown coat (b) is recessive, and that the black heterozygous mouse has that allele (as opposed to a recessive allele for some third color), the chances that any particular offspring in that mating will be brown are 50% (because the offspring has a 50% chance of getting the b allele from the black parent, and will certainly get a b allele from the brown parent).

So the chances that all 4 offspring will be brown are 1/2 * 1/2 * 1/2 * 1/2 = 1/16 = 6.25%
