Mostly cell mediated immuno response occur when pathogen encounters for the first time. Meanwhile various antigen presenting cells like macrophages,dendritic cells present the antigen via various process to T helper cell which triggers B lymphocytes to form antibodies,hence the humoral response starts, but initially the cell mediated response occurs only. Now antibody can remember those particular antigens. if in future again that pathogen attacks body the previously created antibodies kill them.
