I am trying to find a protocol for our teaching lab that takes as little time as possible since we only have class time to do it in. Anyone have a quick transformation protocol?

Try TOPO cloning. You'll get a kit with a gene fragment, a TOPO vector to ligate the fragment into (takes 5 min) and then you chemically transform the ligated plasmid into E. coli cells by heating the bacteria at 42 degrees celsius for 30 sec. The cells have to grow for about 1 hour and then they can be spread on plates.
