In a short essay, name the five EU institutions and describe their functions.

 a.   The European Central Bank–Oversees EU monetary functions.
b.   The Council of the European Union–Acts as the EU's main decision-making body. Comprised of representatives from each member country, it makes decisions regarding economic policy, budgets, and foreign policy, as well as admission of new member countries.
c.   The European Commission–It is composed of delegates from each member state and represents the interests of the EU as a whole. It proposes legislation and policies and is responsible for implementing the decisions of the European Parliament and the Council of the EU.
d.   The European Parliament consists of elected representatives that hold joint sessions each month. The Parliament has three main functions: (1) form EU legislation, (2) supervise EU institutions, and (3) make decisions about the EU budget.
e.   The European Court of Justice–Interprets and enforces EU laws and settles legal disputes between member states.
