In guinea pigs, the black coat (B) is dominant over the white coat (b), and straight hair (H) is dominant over curly hair (h). Using a Punnett square, complete the cross between a heterozygous black, curly-haired individual and a white homozygous, straight-haired individual. State the parent genotypes, gametes, and the F1 phenotypes and genotypes.

Thank you

Parent genotypes:
Heterozygous brown, curly-haired individual has the alleles: Bbhh
(this is because if it has a brown coat, it at least has to have one B, and if it's heterozygous, it means the other allele is b; also, if it's curly-haired, both of the hair alleles have to be recessive)

Heterozygous cream-colored, straight haired has the alleles: bbHh

We then put the B's and H's in all the possible combinations for one animal, and do the same for the other animal, then cross them. Look:

____________________Bh_______ _______bh
bH_________________BbHh______ _____bbHh
bh_________________Bbhh______ _____bbhh

So the gametes were: Bh and bh for one animal and bH and bh for the other.

The F1 generation will then be
25% BbHh (heterozygous for both brown coat and straight hair)
25% bbHh (cream-colored coat and heterozygous for straight hair)
25% Bbhh (heterozygous brown coat and curly hair)
25% bbhh (homozygous cream-colored coat and curly hair)

Hope this helps!

The heterozygous brown, curly pig is Bbhh; the heterozygous cream, straight-haired pig is bbHh. They each produce 2 kinds of gametes, (Bh and bh) for the first and (bH and bh) for the second. The Punnett square is a 2x2:
_____Bh_____bH___
bH__BbHh___bbHH__
bh__Bbhh____bbHh___

According to this Punnett square, 0.25 are brown, straight; 0.25 are brown curly; 0.5 are cream, straight.
