It would help immensely if someone could help me solve this equation and the process used!  I'm not certain of what properties I must use since I was sick when these lessons were taught.  Thank you very much!  

Solve each equation for x:
2 ln x + 2 = 1

first of all, you have a condition that x should be positive : x > 0

move the 2 to the other side:
2 ln x = -1

divide by 2:
ln x = -1/2

then you can convert it from logarithmic form to exponential form:

x = e ^ (-1/2)

using a calculator, the answer is almost:
0.60653
and this answer is accepted according to the condition you have

2 ln(x) = 1 - 2
ln(x) = -0.5
x = e^-0.5 = 0.6065 (4 decimal places)
