An instanton can be used to calculate the transition probability for a quantum mechanical particle tunneling through a potential barrier.

A boson, in general, is a type of particle that allows multiple identical particles to exist in the same place in the same quantum state.  The Higgs boson is needed to understand why particles have mass.

So, if the quantum mechanical particle tunneling through the barrier were a boson, it could be treated by the equations that govern tunneling.  But, that doesn't make the boson an instanton (nor does it make an instanton a boson).
