A 0.500 kg dynamics cart heading east at a velocity of 0.20 m/s collides in a head-on collision with another cart of mass 0.400 kg traveling west with a speed of 0.40 m/s. After the collision, the two carts link together. What is their final velocity?

use conservation of momentum...
Before collision = 0.5*0.2 - 0.4*0.4 = -0.06 kgm/s

After collision = 0.9*velocity = -0.06
v = -0.06/0.9 = -0.07 m/s

conservation of momentum says...
m1 * v1 = m2 * v2
where 1 and 2 are before and after the collision
before = after
after the collision, the speeds of the two objects will be the same (x)
.5kg * .2 m/s + .4kg * -.4 m/s = .5kg * x + .4kg * x
((.5 kg) * (-.2 (m / s))) + ((.4 kg) * ((.4) (m / s))) = 0.06 m kg / s = .9kg * x

(0.06 ((m kg) / s)) / (.9 kg) = 0.0666666667 m / s

when 2 carts stick together after collision then the collision is a perfectly collision (if we disregard friction) the formula is m1v1i + m2v2i = (m1+m2) vf  (we consider the objects to be an object becuz they stich togethet after collision) so, vf=0.4333(there were a lot of threes didn't write them all)

plz look at my question and answer it if you can i really need help
