A mass casualty accident has occurred. The nurse has received a list of terms to use for the Alternate Triage 5-Category System. The first patient the nurse receives has a color code of red. The nurse knows that this patient needs
1. to be sent home.
2. to be evaluated in the next few hours.
3. to be evaluated for immediate intervention.
4. to be sent with his or her family for privacy during the dying process.

3 -- In the Alternate Triage 5-Category System, the colors are matched with the patient condition. Red/immediate means the patient needs life-saving intervention. Observation/yellow means the patient is stable but needs hospitalization. Dismiss/white means home care is sufficient. Wait/green means the patient can go home but seek medical attention in a few days. Black/expectant means the patient will most likely die from the injuries.
Don't forget to give me a thumbs up!
