1 -- Intravenous nitroglycerin must be mixed in glass bottles and infused through special, non-PVC tubing, because up to 40% to 80% of nitroglycerin can be absorbed by PVC bags or tubing. This medication must be infused with an infusion pump, and used within four hours of reconstitution. The patient receiving intravenous nitroglycerin should be on bed rest and not assisted out of bed.
