1,2 -- Myxedema coma may be precipitated by trauma, infection, failure to take thyroid replacement medications, the use of central nervous system depressants, and exposure to cold temperatures. Excessive use of thyroid replacement medications, central nervous system stimulants, or exposure to heat and humidity would not precipitate myxedema coma.
