A classic experiment involved placing isolated mitochondria in various solutions while providing them with ADP & Pi. Mitochondria are capable of making ATP when placed in solutions that are as simple as being acidic (with the ADP & Pi too), meaning there is no glucose or any other intermediate of respiration provided. Explain why this works.
