In the pig &

14. A patient is diagnosed with a collapsed lung. He has only one lung functioning properly. Other than chest pain and difficulty breathing, what symptoms would you expect the patient to have considering he is not getting efficient gas exchange?




15. The mammalian liver, like yours and mine, has many functions. Name two functions of the liver.

The pyloric sphinter "seals" the distal part of the stomach.  It opens periodally to allow some of the stomach contents (chyme) to enter the small intestine.

14. Probably exteme fatigue at the slightest exertion.

15. Deamination of amino acids and conversion of the amino groups to urea;  production of bile.

The pyloric sphincter is a gateway that allows chyme to pass from the stomach to the small intestines.

The definition of a sphincter is a ring of muscle.
