Reliance on one or two crop species means that the food supply is very susceptable to diseases. (its called monoculture.) Think of the Irish Potato famine--one fungus caused thousands of people to starve to death when their crops failed. We are setting ourselves up for a similar problem by being so heavily reliant on one or two species of crop for our foods.
