A brand development index is the percentage of a brand’s sales in a region compared to the population of the region. If, for example, a brand in Ontario represents 34% of total sales but Ontario accounts for 39% of the total population, the BDI for the region would only be 87.2%. This indicates that the brand is underdeveloped in Ontario. An organization would consider adding more advertising dollars to this province to improve the situation.
