Advertisers can use the combination of sight and sound that television offers to create maximum impact on the viewing audience. It is a medium that is ideally suited for delivering an exciting and emotional message. Television’s reach is astounding, particularly in prime time. A commercial shown on any of the top 20 shows in Canada has the potential to reach more than one million viewers. Further, television reaches a broad range of demographics and in many cases mirrors the Canadian population on specific demographics. Advertisers with large budgets can use television effectively to build frequency and be selective regarding markets they wish to advertise in. Television also offers creative flexibility. It is the appropriate medium for verifying a product’s claims because it can show the product being used, which provides proof. Convincing product demonstrations provide potential customers with a reason to buy the product.
