The microarray chip contains DNA sequences representing specific regions of the human genome. Patient DNA is
hybridized to the chip to detect unbalanced chromosomal abnormalities(copy number changes)thatmay not be identified
byconventionalkaryotype.Genom icmicroarraycanalsobeusedtofu rther characterize cytogenetic abnormalitiesidentified
by conventional cytogenetic methods. The analysisis performed using arrayed oligonucleotide probes and comparative
genomic hybridization (CGH) techniques.
•    This technique will only detect imbalances (gain or loss of DNA) in the genome. Balanced rearrangements, such
as translocations and inversions, mutations, or small genomic abnormalities between or within probes, will not be
detected
