Answer: Huntington's disease (HD) is caused by degeneration of the caudate nucleus and the putamen. The disease is marked by uncontrollable jerky movements of the arms and legs. HD is a hereditary disorder, related to a dominant gene on chromosome 4. Parkinson's disease is associated with neurodegeneration of the nigrostrial dopamine system and involves tremor at rest, muscle rigidity, slowness of movement, and postural instability. Parkinson's disease can be treated with L-DOPA while there is no treatment for HD.
