Assume that tree cavities are very limited in a given area. Would a local population of secondary cavity-nesting birds (those that cannot excavate their own nesting places) be limited by density-dependent intraspecific competition or density-independent environmental deficiency by the lack of cavities? Explain. What if you provided more nesting sites by erecting suitable next boxes? Explain.
