A Calorie is a metric unit of heat measurement.
The small calorie (cal) is the amount of heat required to raise the temperature of one gram of water one degree.
A large Calorie, or kilocalorie (kcal), usually referred to as a calorie and sometimes as a kilogram calorie, equals 1,000 cal. This unit is used to express the amount of energy that a food provides when consumed.
