Normal and mutant gene sequences associated with the disease could be affixed to the array in known positions. DNA from a patient and a known nonmutant individual could be separately isolated and labeled (or mRNA could be used, making cDNA for labeling with reverse transcription). Both are applied to the microarray, and whichever labeled fragments that bind with the DNA fragments on the array will colorimetrically reveal which alleles the patient possesses.
